Taffeta is a crisp, smooth, plain woven fabric. According to Wikipedia, The

word came into Middle English via Old French and Old Italian, which borrowed the Persian word tāfta (تافته), which means "silk" or "linen cloth"."Taffeta fabric" is sometimes used to refer to "plain woven fabric".


The earliest taffeta was woven with silk as raw material and plain weave. The warp yarn adopts double-twisted yarn. Weft yarn adopts single twist yarn. A single weft thread go one and under a single warp thread, creating a cheater board pattern. Twisted yarn and plain weave structure which creates the stiffness and structure of the resulting fabric.


What are the charatieristics of taffeta?


Taffeta is a beautiful, smooth fabric. It has unique characteristics.


Crisp: Taffeta fabric is crisp and holds it shape well as a result of the tightly twisted yarns woven together in a plain weave fashion.


Sheen: Taffeta has a lustrous shine that is unique to the fabric and comes from the innate qualities of silk or polyester.


Smooth: Taffeta fabric also has a smooth surface, and piece-dyed taffeta in particular is especially soft.


Sound: Taffeta, especially yarn-dyed taffeta, makes a rustling sound called “scroop” when it rubs together.


How to choose taffeta?


The application of Taffeta is very extensive. There are many types of taffeta on the market. You can choose the product that suits you through the following aspects.


Material: Silk taffeta, rayon taffeta, acetate taffeta, polyester taffeta and nylon taffeta. These are common taffeta species. One of the most expensive and most luxurious silk taffeta. If you want the best experience and have enough budget, silk taffeta is your best choice. If you think silk is too expensive but you need a good touch, you can choose rayon taffeta and acetate taffeta. If you are looking for low price and want more functionality you can choose polyester taffeta and nlyon taffeta.


Types: yarn-dyed and piece-dyed. Piece-dyed taffeta is often used in linings and is quite soft. Yarn-dyed taffeta is much stiffer and is often used in evening dresses.


Thread: Thread is the total number of warp and weft yarns within 1 square inch.People usually use 'T' to refer to thread. For example: 210T means that the total number of warp and weft yarns within 1 square inch of this fabric is 210.If you need a more dense fabric, you need to choose a higher thread. (PS: There is no necessary connection between thread and weight)


Package: Package is very important for taffeta. Larger quantities must be ordered in rolls. Due to the crisp feature of Taffeta, if other packaging is used, it may form irreversible wrinkles.

Origin: Choosing a good origin can help you buy high-quality fabrics. Taffeta was first produced in France and Italy. Now there are two largest production places in the world: Bangalore in India and Jiangsu Province in China. The Bangalore area has been engaged in the production of taffeta since the 1990s, and has rich production experience. And is currently dominating the global taffeta market. The taffeta produced in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China in 1950 was known as the "King of Taffeta" in Europe at that time. Also has very rich production experience.


Functionality: If you need more functionality. Such as waterproof, windproof, breathable, anti-static, film, flame retardant, etc. We would highly recommend polyester taffeta and nylon taffeta.
